Mula is the 19th Nakshatra and falls in 0° — 13°20' Dhanush raashi as per vedic astrology.

As per vedic astronomy, this nakshatra or lunar mansion is considered to be at the centre of milky way galaxy. In sanskrit mula or moola means ‘the root’.

The symbol of this nakshatra is ankusha. Ankusha is the divine weapon of Lord Ganesha. Ankusha is a hook like instrument used to guide and train elephants. Lord Ganesh uses the Ankusha to remove all hindrances from the dharma’s path. By removing all the obstacles, Ganapati helps a devotee to move ahead on his karmic journey.

In certain regions of India, Ankusha is regarded as one of Astamangala or the the eight auspicious objects.

Let us have a look at the lunar mansion , moola captured in Scorpio constellation during July 2020 at 10 pm. Jupiter was in opposition.

By opposition it means

Earth is in-between Sun and the planet while all three align in a straight line. In a way, the planet comes straight to the Earth’s view on this day.

Moolam in Scorpio

ε, ζ, η, θ, ι, κ, λ, μ and ν Scorpionis together represent the nakshatra, however, λ Scorpionis is the one star that is thoroughly matched to this nakshatra given its apparent visual magnitude and position in the lunar traverse band

λ Scorpionis — Shaula — apparent magnitude +1.62

Shaula is the 24th brightest star in the sky. It is only slightly fainter than Regulus in the constellation Leo, Adhara in Canis Major and Castor in Gemini, and it just outshines Gacrux in Crux, Bellatrix in Orion and Elnath in Taurus.

Shaula and its brighter neighbor Antares are among the 58 stars selected for navigation. Navigational stars are some of the brightest and most recognizable stars in the sky. They play a special role in the field of celestial navigation.

Shaula is one of the stars on the flag of Brazil. Each star symbolizes a Brazilian Federative Unit and Shaula represents the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

In fiction, Lambda Scorpii was notably used in The Transformers comic book series. Cybertron, the Transformers home world, orbits the star in the IDW comics.

We will see Purvashada/Pooradam in our next post. Until then, have a great day :-)
