Misophonia
Poetry
Misophonia echoes, a discordant refrain,
Sounds stir storms, evoking inner pain,
Triggers unravel emotions, an unsettling maze,
A symphony of discomfort, in sound’s haunting craze.
Today, as I rode the bustling metro, surrounded by the symphony of urban sounds, I overheard a fascinating conversation between two passengers nearby.
A young woman, her voice filled with passion, shared her experiences with sensory triggers. She described how certain scents would conjure up vivid images and colors in her mind, painting a canvas of sensory delight. ( yes, the synesthesia we have seen before 🙌)
Her father, an older gentleman with a contemplative air, nodded in agreement, recounting his own encounters with concepts sparked tangible sensations in his perception.
Their dialogue naturally flowed, delving into the world of intertwined senses, captivating my attention. It was then that they shifted their conversation to another intriguing phenomenon: misophonia. The young woman explained how certain everyday sounds, like tapping or chewing, triggered intense discomfort and agitation within some people, causing an unexpected surge of emotions.
Her dad, empathizing with her experience, shared similar encounters, acknowledging how specific sounds seemed to unravel his friend’s composure, evoking a sense of distress or irritation. Their discussion expanded to the complexities of misophonia too.
In the midst of the metro’s hustle and bustle, their conversation painted the spectrum of human experiences, even in the ordinary setting of a daily commute. 😄
Have a wonderful day 😍💖
